Your Life's Purpose
"There is a perfect place in this world that only you can fill. Your purpose is to find where you fit in this universal puzzle"
Been There, Done That: I've been searching for my purpose in life too
At the young age of 8, I was staring into the coffin of one of my favorite uncles. I was enjoying childhood too much to inquire about life but this death thing had me puzzled. So, like any child when faced with the unknown, I asked a million questions. If you had been an eye witness to this event, you would have seen adults avoiding me like I had some deadly viral infection. I even had the pastor on the run. I did corner him as he came from the bathroom and hit him with a barrage of questions. He looked to my mom for mercy and she quickly pulled me away.
If I had been satisfied with the first answer, I swear that I would not have asked the same question over and over. I did, however, discover two things at my young age:
Anyway, it had taken me 30 years to have the revelation of the answer to the question stated above "what's my purpose?". Keep this in mind --- what I've found to be true with any paradox or tough question is that the answer always, always, always lie in simplicity.
Ockham's Razor: The Secret to Solving Life's Problems
Ockham's Razor is the principle proposed by William of Ockham in the 14th century:
"Pluralitas non est ponenda sine neccesitate", which translates as "entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily". More succinctly, "all things being equal, the most simple explanation is probably the best..."
With that concept in mind, here is what I discovered about purpose in my apartment in Baltimore, MD during an ice storm: The Purpose of Life is simply to Live and to live abundantly. Whether you choose to or not and how you do it is up to you.
I know that this won't sit well with a lot of you because it's too easy and most of you feel that life should be mysterious and complicated. Who complicates things, we do. Look around you, we are the only creatures on this planet that live life begrudgingly, wishing it was all some other way than it currently is because in our minds someone else has it better than we do.
We are the only creatures on this planet that seem to have difficulty with living harmoniously in the environment that we alone created. Watch the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet and see how other creatures go about their daily lives. We are supposed to be the intelligent species yet we can't seem to get it together because we keep telling ourselves that we are not "OK"; when in fact, we are wonderful. We look at a rose and admire its beauty but look in the mirror with disdain.
We have allowed someone else to set the standards of abundance, beauty, and health instead of deciding on our own. We then go out into this world of "make believe" and wonder why we don't measure up, bemoaning our fate. Guess what? Today is the day that I, your host, will give you a swift but friendly kick in the "you know what" to jump start you on your journey.
A Rare Opportunity to... Live the Life of Your Dreams
Before you end this section, you should have some idea as to what your purpose is. Yes, you are going to choose it. There exists two schools of thought on this, which are:
Whatever you believe is not up for debate here. It either serves you well or it does not and whatever you choose to do with it is entirely up to you. There is no right or wrong just some principles that you can add to your life.
Where to? No journey begins without a destination
Imagine that you are a cab driver and I jumped in your cab and said, "Ok, just drive". Your first question would be, where to? In this situation, it's such an obvious question to ask but you'd be surprised to find out that the reason why only 3% of the world's population is achieving its goals is simply because they have designed them with a destination in mind.
You are probably thinking, not another speech about setting goals. I say that because I felt the same way a few years ago and if I hadn't, I would not have reached the level of "living the life of my dreams". If this is your goal then I would suggest you pay close attention to what follows.
"Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." - Proverbs 29:18.
My intention here is not to get preachy but to show you that the problems you face today are the same that have existed yesterday and the solutions that worked yesterday will work today. Again, I am talking about simplicity. Mankind has made life difficult. It was not designed that way. What you are getting here is the most simplified way to discover your purpose and use it to succeed in life. This is not a difficult task unless you want it to be. It will require some diligence on your part but it's easy. Are you up to the task of redesigning your life into one filled with meaning and living your ideal life or do you wish to remain the same, trudging along to the beat of someone else's drum?
Are you ready to start your journey to success? If so, bring an open mind and be prepared to expand it beyond your wildest dreams. I promise you it will be well worth it.
