Eliminate Failure For Good!
Failure Habit #9
The Nitpicker
This person is a busy-body and perfectionist. He generally misses the big picture of success by spending too much time whittling away on the small insignificant details that keeps him running in place. Instead of business, he has perfected the art of "busyness". He consistently misses deadlines to make sure that everything looks right.
Belief: "Everything must be perfect before I get started." "Why focus on the forest when this little tree needs water." "If no one else focuses on this stuff then it's up to me to do it." “Almost there. Just one last revision.”
Results: Appreciated as a great worker but can be aggravating to co-workers by focusing too much on the lesser of things. Tends to hold up projects by distracting others from doing the things necessary to be successful. Others will acknowledge your "attention" to detail but few will want to associate with you. Look up "anal" in the dictionary and you will see your picture staring back.
The Fix: This person deserves to succeed, and often does. If he has his own business and charges well enough for the quality of work performed, he can do well. If he is well-managed within a company, he is invaluable. But, if taken too far, you end up exhausted. Focusing on the wrong things limits your
success.
If this is you, take a step back. Look at the big picture.
Accept that not everything is perfect. Ask yourself where would today’s efforts bring you the most efficient and effective results.
Failure Habit #10
The Quitter
This person gives up at the first or second obstacle. When given the option, he will always choose the path of "no" resistance. A complainer and whiner by nature, nothing ever seems to be right; and when it's not right, it's time to do something else.
Belief: "When the going gets tough, I run in the opposite direction." "If at first you don't succeed, don't try again." "Why not quit when you are ahead." "He who quits today, lives to try something easier another day."
The Results: He never gets anything done by constantly bouncing around trying to find what's easy. No one trusts his ability to do anything because they fear that at the first sign of trouble, he will disappear. And...he usually does by feigning illness or coming up with a myriad of excuses to avoid any and all obstacles that often appear.
The Fix: Life has problems. People blocking you. Technical issues. Unexpected events. What's most important is how you deal with them. Do you see them as obstacles to learn and build inner fortitude from or do you see obstacles as a time to buckle under pressure and practice the art of avoidance. Stress is really your reaction to a stimulus.
Dumb things happen. Hard problems arise. Expect the unexpected.
The cure for this trait is best summarized in this way...
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”
- Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933), 30th U.S. President

Success in life is not that hard if you know what to do first!
